Choosing spill containment or secondary containment products
Types of secondary containment equipment
Proper storage and control of petroleum products, chemicals, acids, pesticides, and other process liquids ensure a safer and more compliant work place. An effective secondary containment plan not only includes consideration of routine spill containment products such as spill decks and spill pallets, but also requires some consideration of processes or activities outside of basic chemical storage. A company may also need to evaluate secondary containment issues when moving, pouring, or transferring hazardous substances.
Below are various types of spill containment or secondary containment products with a brief description of the product and a few of the most common uses.
Spill Decks, Spill Pallets – made of tough polyethylene; handle spill containment for single or multiple drums; perfect for a dispensing station or work center
Drum Trays – designed to collect and contain nuisance drips from upright containers
Spill Containment Pads – provide secure surfaces to hold smaller items such as automotive batteries and contain any spills that may occur during handling
Drum Funnels – durable tools help you pour liquids accurately without spills; designed to drain multiple oil filters, cans, pails, etc., simultaneously; Ultra Funnels include a built-in splashguard rim and snap-on cover
Drum Dollies with Secondary Containment – provide a dolly, dispensing station and secondary containment all in one unit
Spill Scooters – single-drum wheeled dollies with a higher well capacity
Drain Seals – stop spills from going down floor drains before they can be absorbed and picked up; choose from square, rectangular, round drain seals or conical drain plugs.
Spill Berms – portable non-absorbing, flexible dams for sealing off or deterring spills and leaks; especially useful around machine tools
Drum Overpacks – poly drums for enclosing leaking drums or securing drums of hazardous materials against accidental leakage
Salvage Drums – use to contain picked-up liquids and seal them for handling and/or disposal
Mobile Spill Carts – like a spill pallet on wheels; use where containers of spillable materials need to be moved frequently from work station to work station
Drum Storage Systems – modular, stackable secondary containment systems with built-in spill sumps and dispensing wells
Utility Trays – heavy-duty polyethylene spill containment trays for holding cans, pails, dispensers and dirty parts off the floor
Drip Pans – Low-profile spill containment pans for catching heavy drips and leaks under spigots, machines, leaky hoses or wherever high-volume leaking occurs
