According to OSHA thousands of workers each year sicken from occupational heat exposure, and some deaths occur from heat stress. Workers at risk include outdoor workers and workers in hot environments such as firefighters, emergency service, police/security, construction, utility, agriculture/grounds, and maintenance workers. Workers at greater risk of heat stress include those who are 65 years of age or older, are overweight, have heart disease or high blood pressure, or take medications that may aggravate the effects of heat. These illnesses and deaths are preventable through caution and the use of heat-relief supplies and gear.
HyperKewl vests and caps, from Techniche International, are made with a unique polymer embedded fabric that soaks up and stores water inside which then evaporates slowly. This creates an extended cooling effect that helps workers in hot work environments maintain higher energy levels and fend off heat exhaustion.
The vests feature a comfortable, quilted nylon outer layer, a HyperKewl polymer embedded fabric inner layer, a water-repellent nylon liner and black cotton/poly elastic trim, plus a V-neck with zipper closure. They provide five to ten hours of cooling relief per one- to two-minute soaking. The vests are lightweight and durable.
The cooling caps provide five to ten hours of cooling relief per soaking combined with head and eye protection from the sun. Featuring six panels, they are made with a 100% cotton outer layer, a HyperKewl polymer embedded fabric inner layer, a water-repellent nylon liner and a hook-and-loop closure for universal fit. Caps are available in a choice of colors and have reflective stripes.
Because the nylon inner liners on these vests and caps repel water, the user stays dry even while being cooled by the water evaporative effect. The garments are lightweight and reusable over and over. The vests are designed to be worn outside of any other clothing to ensure proper evaporation of the absorbed water.
