Justrite Type I & II Safety Cans

Just about anyone who has searched and shopped for safety cans to store flammables has learned there are two basic designs: Type I, and Type II. Don’t let that puzzle you.
The difference is simple and easy to remember: Type I safety cans have a single opening; Type II safety cans have two openings.
The Type I cans use the same opening for both filling and pouring. On top-grade safety cans such as those made by Justrite, this opening has a self-closing, well-sealed lid. This secures it against spills and leaks. The spout contains a flame arrester to stop flashback fires and a relief device automatically relieves any excess pressure in the can.
Type II cans have two openings on the top. One of these has a flexible metal nozzle for smooth, precise pouring. It also helps ground against static sparks. The other, larger opening is for filling only, making that task simpler and easier. It also can admit make-up air when liquid is being poured. Both openings have flame arresters. A relief vent is included on these cans also, plus a large handle to make carrying easier.
So: Type I = 1 opening; Type II = 2 openings. Simplicity.
